Until midMay 2026, and from late November, we recommend the 271/2/3 bus to Bath Bus Station, change there to the 3 or 4 towards "Weston" which will take you to the hospital. Also, once a day, a direct bus, route x76.
After midMay, long term road works in Bath break the connection. From 14th May 2026 until November, Manvers Street in Bath will be closed and buses arriving into Bath via Walcot Street - the 271, 272, 273 from Melksham, plus the D1x, 3, x31, 228, 231 and 228 will terminate to the north of the city centre. Until 16th June, that will be at the Hilton Hotel (near the Podium) on Walcot Street, and they will start back from there. Then from June to November, they will terminate at Grand Parade and restart outward from The Guildhall.
During this period, passengers who are reasonably fit making onward connections by bus (from the bus station) or train can walk through the city centre. It's just under 800 metres from The Podium, and just over 500 metres from Grand Parade and from The Guildhall.
Onward connections to the Royal United Hospital may also be made at Westgate Buildings - a somewhat shorter walk, to bus routes including the 4 to the Royal United Hospital and the x39 to Bristol.
If these walks are too far for you, you can changed onto the route 13 at Snow Hill as you travel in from Melksham; this service runs via Claverton Bridge and will still serve the Bus Station - but it only runs once an hour.
Bus route x76 from Melksham should continue to serve the RUH during the closures, and bus route 20 will be re-routed in Bath and may be a useful option, but details are not yet confirmed.
Bus route D1 (from Trowbridge and Bradford-on-Avon) will also serve the bus station throughout, and you can connect into that at Trowbridge from the x34 and at Bradford-on-Avon from the 69.
Other options of driving to the hospital, driving to the Odd Down Park and Ride from where the No.4 bus runs, and taking a taxi to the hospital remain available to you.
